Art History

Joseph Reuben Quinto is an Art History major at the University of Colorado Denver, pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree. Born in 2000 in Mandaluyong, Philippines, he moved with his family to Denver at just five months old. He expresses himself through visual art and the art of makeup, in which his practice is dedicated to the transformation of inner beauty and unconventional/abstract works. In his art historical research, he explores the intersections of gender and fashion history. He is a recipient of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant, through which he investigated the history of the Ballroom scene and explored the works of Rashaad Newsome that intertwine contemporary art and queer culture. For his Art History thesis, he is exploring the art of wig making in the 18th century, and what it reveals about labor, class, and gender since the Enlightenment.
